At least one worker died and three others were admitted to hospital after Ammonia gas leak incident at SPY Agro Industries in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.

Kurnool District Collector G Veerapandian said: “Today, a 50-year-old employee died due to ammonia gas leak inside the SPY Agros Company in the town of Nandyal [in Kurnool district].”

Veerapandian said that there was a gas leak inside the company. “There is no risk to propel outside. No need to worry at all,” he said.

“As soon as the matter was known, we initiated called an emergency and rushed teams to the scene and ensured safety measures,” Veerapandian further said.

The company is owned by the Nandi Group and the industry is located in Kurnool district, 3 km away from Nandyal on NH 18. According to its website: “SPY Agro Industries Ltd is a modern Grain based distillery, producing 1,50,000 Liters of Grain Neutral spirit per day.”
