Cricket-turned-commentator Irfan Pathan has opined that the lazy elegance of players like Rohit Sharma and Wasim Jaffer is misunderstood initially and people often think that they need to work hard.

Having a lot of time to play even the fastest of deliveries is taken as a gift in the world of cricket and Rohit Sharma is a type of batsman who is a master at this art. Irfan Pathan noted the same points and said that those players actually work hard and perception about them is wrong.

“Lot of people are mistaken when they see a guy who has lot of time and he is slightly more relaxed like Rohit Sharma. Then you say he needs to work hard! Same things were said about Wasim Jaffer, when you look at his aura, when he used to run he used to run very relaxed, when he used to bat he had lot of time and we used to think why isn’t he working hard but actually, he was working really hard,” Irfan Pathan told on Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected’.

The Baroda-born further praised Team India’s vice-captain and stated that Rohit Sharma always talks about sensible and declared him a team man which has been the reason for his success as the Mumbai Indians captain in IPL.

Rohit Sharma’s, who rues the opportunity to play for India in 2011 World till date has won the most number of IPL trophies in IPL. He has marshalled his Mumbai Indians troop to 4 IPL title and have even outshined MS Dhoni in the process.

“Similarly with Rohit, from outside we used to think he might need to work more harder, he might need to put more application. Whenever you talk to Rohit Sharma, he used to always talk about sensible things, he used to always talk about working hard and he used to always talk about the team first as well, that is why you see some of the results he got at the captain of the Mumbai Indians team,” Irfan Pathan said.

Irfan also opined that not getting selected in the Indian squad for 2011 World Cup was a blessing in disguise for Rohit Sharma as he came back stronger after that. Irfan Pathan said that Rohit Sharma developed a strong mindset after 2012.

“He got the beating of not playing the world cup and then came back really hard because of a strong mindset after 2012,” Irfan Pathan, who retired in January 2020, said.
