Kareena Kapoor Khan made her debut in Bollywood opposite Abhishek Bachchan in Refugee. The film hit the theatres on June 30, 2000. This month marks the two-decade anniversary of the original IT girl of Bollywood, who is also the true-blue fashionista.
Kareena Kapoor has always been the person who broke stereotypes, made bold choices and wore clothes that were way ahead of its time. As the stunner completes 20 years in the industry, we take a trip down memory lane and revisit some of her most iconic looks.
POO – KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM (2001)
Kareena Kapoor’s entry scene in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
This is when everything began. In the film, Kareena Kapoor makes an entry dancing to the song, It’s Raining Men while applying mascara and nude lipstick. She turns and you see the actress wearing a baby-pink shimmery bralette teamed with a beige leather mini skirt. That is when Kareena Kapoor made it clear to everyone that she is the sartorial stunner of Bollywood.

However, it was her red backless spaghetti-strap shimmery bralette, which she wore with a pair of matching red leather pants, that became the most iconic look from the film. Kareena wore this for the song, You Are My Sonia, in which she can be seen dancing along with Hrithik Roshan. The pants that had cut-out details in the front were accessorised with a delicate beaded belt. This is one of the best-looking monotone outfits to date.
KAMINI – DON 2 (2006)

Even though Kareena just made a cameo in the film, her bodycon golden dress became a star and no one can deny that. Kareena Kapoor was the golden girl in the song Yeh Mera Dil. Her halter-neck shimmery golden knee-length dress became iconic and a lot of people were seen wearing something similar trying to copy her.
Kareena just used a pair of gold dangling earrings to accessorise the dress that also sported a risque thigh-high slit.
GEET DHILLON – JAB WE MET (2007)

There is no outfit that Kareena Kapoor cannot rock. From playing the fashion-forward Poo in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham to playing the outwardly-going-on-reserved Geet in Jab We Met, Kareena did it all. Her outfits in Jab We Met played a major role in defining her character. Whenever we think of Kareena Kapoor in Jab We Met, we remember her wearing a white Patiala salwar with a long white printed T-shirt and a no make-up look scolding the station master, “Aap jo yeh sab bol rahe hai, iske paise charge karte hai ya yeh muft ka gyaan hai?”

In the entire film, Kareena wore long kurtis with jeans and Patiala salwars. She also wore a lot of suits in the film, remember the song Nagada Nagada? It won’t be wrong to say that Kareena made the Patiala salwar cool again.
POOJA GUDIYA SINGH – TASHAN (2008)
Kareena Kapoor in Tashan
Tashan was a special film for Kareena. The actress became size zero for the film and flaunted every bit of that toned figure in figure-hugging outfits. Nobody can forget the song Chhaliya, when the actress comes out of the ocean in a neon green two-piece bikini. The corset tops that she donned in the song also became the talk of the town.
KALINDI PURI – VEERE DI WEDDING (2018)
Kareena Kapoor in Veere Di Wedding
Veere Di Wedding was a film, that was high on fashion. But it was Kareena Kapoor’s bridal lehenga that actually took things up a notch. A lot of brides shy away from wearing whites, creams and ivory hues on their wedding days, but Kareena’s lehenga was right out of a dream and gave to-be brides some inspiration.
The lehenga, from the vintage collection of the designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, was 25 years old. Kareena was every bit the modern bride in her off-shoulder ivory and cream lehenga. She completed the look with minimal jewellery and a boho hairdo. This was truly an iconic moment.
Fun fact – Veere Di Weeding was Karena Kapoor Khan’s first film post-pregnancy.
