Militants opened fire at security forces during a cordon-and-search operation in Chewa Ullar area of Tral in south Kashmir’s Awantipora on Thursday.

Security forces are embroiled in a gunfight with militants in Tral area in south Kashmir’s Awantipora. This is the second confrontation between security personnel and armed militants in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
As per the most recent inputs, this encounter between security forces and two-three militants is underway in Chewa Ullar area of Tral. The operation began when a joint team of J&K Police, Army’s 42 Battalion and CRPF’s 180 Battalion launched a cordon-and-search operation in Chewa Ullar on the afternoon of June 25.
Officials told India Today that militants hiding in the area opened fire at security personnel as they drew closer to the former’s location. Security forces then responded with retaliatory fire resulting in an encounter.

Earlier on Thursday, two militants associated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (Let) were gunned down by security personnel in north Kashmir’s Sopore area.
In Kashmir, more than 32 militants have been killed in various encounters this month. According to data furnished by the Indian Army, so far more than 100 militants have been neutralized in the Kashmir valley this year.
Protests erupted in Jammu after the UT administration announced its decision to provide 27 existing services for citizens online. Among these services are scholarships for children of slain militants. During these protests, demonstrators asked the administration to provide scholarships for the children of martyred soldiers instead.
