Homemade Jamun Ice Cream

Undoubtedly, ice cream represents milk’s leap towards immortality. Nothing is more soul-satisfying than a cold scoop of creamy home-churned ice cream on a hot summer’s day. As comfort food goes, very little comes close to this cold confection, especially when it’s made from Jamun, the black plum or more colloquially referred to as the Indian blueberry.


Homemade Jamun Ice Cream


1 cup Jamun purée (coarse)

1/2 cup full-fat milk

1/2 cup fresh cream

1 1/2 cup condensed milk

1/2 tbsp cornflour


In a heavy bottom pan, take milk and mix it with cornflour, simmer it on medium heat. Let it cool at room temperature. Now mix cream, condensed milk, milk mixture and Jamun purée to it. Give a good stir. Pour the Jamun ice cream mixture in a plastic container, cover it with a lid and freeze it for 3 hours. Take it out and churn it with a whisk or a hand blender. Put it back in the freezer for the next 3 hours.

Now scoop out the ice cream once ready and savour.
