Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday appealed to the Tamil Nadu government to ensure that justice is delivered to the family members of the two people who died due to police brutality inside a prision in Tuticorin.
In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi said, “Police brutality is a terrible crime. It’s a tragedy when our protectors turn into oppressors. I offer my condolences to the family of the victims and appeal to the government to ensure justice.”

The victims, a father-son duo, died due to police brutality in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu. Media reports also suggest that they were brutally sexually assaulted in police custody.
The father-son duo was picked up for questioning by the Sathankulam police for keeping their mobile accessories shop open during the lockdown on June 19. They were allegedly thrashed by the police while in custody, leading to their deaths. While the son ill and died at the Kovilpatti General Hospital on June 22, his father died on the morning of June 23.
Their family members have demanded that the Tamil Nadu Police must register a murder case against two sub-inspectors, alleging they they were responsible for the two deaths.
The relatives had also said they would not accept the bodies till their demand was heeded to, even as the post mortem was conducted at the Tirunelveli Government Hospital.
